On-page SEO covers the improvements made directly to a webpage. The aim is to help search engines understand the page while giving visitors clear, useful information. It is not about repeating a keyword as many times as possible.
Choose one clear purpose
Each important page should have a defined topic. A page about website design should not also try to rank equally for hosting, branding, paid advertising and every town in the region. Supporting services can be mentioned and linked, but the main purpose should remain clear.
Match the visitor’s intent
Consider what someone expects after making the search. A person looking for a local service normally wants details of the work, service area, evidence of experience and a way to enquire. The page should answer those needs rather than providing a generic essay.
Write a useful page title
The SEO title should describe the page accurately and remain readable. Include the main service and location where relevant, followed by the business name if space allows. Avoid long strings of repeated towns or keywords.
Create a compelling meta description
The meta description does not need to list every phrase. Summarise the page and give the searcher a reason to click. Keep the wording natural and consistent with what the page actually contains.
Use one clear H1
The main heading should confirm the subject of the page. Subheadings can then divide the content into services, process, benefits, frequently asked questions and other useful sections.
Provide enough detail
Thin service pages rarely answer customer questions. Explain what is included, who the service is for, how the process works and what makes your approach different. The amount of content should be determined by usefulness rather than an arbitrary word count.
Add internal links
Link to closely related services, relevant case studies and the contact page. Descriptive link text helps visitors understand where the link leads. Internal links also help search engines discover and interpret the structure of the website.
Optimise images
Use descriptive file names and concise alternative text where an image conveys information. Resize and compress images before uploading. Large files can slow the page without improving visible quality.
Check the enquiry journey
SEO traffic has little value if visitors cannot act. Include a visible call to action and test forms, telephone links and buttons on mobile and desktop devices.
Review the finished page
Read the page as a customer. Remove repetition, unclear claims and unnecessary jargon. Check spelling, headings, links and contact details before publication.
